No doubt, the Breeders Crown has lost a shade of its glory but come August 24 there will still be eight Group 1 races held and close to $1.5 million in stakes on offer.
Seems pretty juicy to me.
Before we get to Breeders Crown Final night we need to get to Breeders Crown semi-final night which is where we venture to this Saturday evening at Lords Raceway, Bendigo.

Race One – 2YO Fillies
Jemstone led all the way in last week’s heat and looks likely to do the same here. Mick Stanley’s Iolanta will likely head to the breeze but it’s difficult to see her trying to apply to much pressure given there is $280,000 more on offer in seven days.
Treasure is a talent but gate eight hurts and Alice Kay is certainly above average but will need luck. Amelia Rose is the interesting runner because she should be able to tuck in behind Jemstone and get a real good shot up the sprint lane.
Selections;
1 Jemstone $2
2 Iolanta $4
3 Amelia Rose $4
4 Alice Kay $13
Race Two – 3YO Fillies
New Zealander Buzinga gets a great chance here from gate one but she will have Emma Stewart’s filly, Looking Fabulous, camped on her tail. It’d be a surprise to see those two not run the quinella unless Buzinga gets crossed early.
Our Road To Mecca can feature from gate three and is in the market whilst Lady Rocknrolla could be a blowout hope should they run the race upside down.
Selections;
1 Looking Fabulous $2.30
2 Buzinga $2.80
3 Our Road To Mecca $3
4 Lady Rocknrolla $14
Race Three – 2 YO Colts & Geldings
Well and truly the weaker of the two boys races.
Perfect Stride is the hot favourite in the market but he’s no superstar so tread warily. He was well off the good colts in NZ so a moral here he is not.
Focus Stride could capitalise on a beaut alley (1) and Star Hunter, The Tiger Army and Do Not Surrender have all shown ability at different points in a long season for babies.
Selections;
1 Do Not Surrender $7
2 Perfect Stride $1.55
3 Focus Stride $7.50
4 Saint Emilion $13
Race Four – 2YO Fillies
Maajida leads and Maajida wins. The hardest part about this race will be spelling her name next to the first place graphic.
Michelle Lee Mac goes nicely and Theultimate could run a drum with a soft Gavin Lang drive. West Australian filly Askmeilltellya can qualify and from there, anything at cricket score odds could fill out first fours.
Selections;
1 Maajida $1.04
2 Michelle Lee Mac $14
3 Theultimate $18
4 Askmeilltellya $17
Race Five – 2YO Colts & Geldings
Mirragon keeps drawing favourably to stable mate Be Happy Mach but the result remains the same. Be Happy Mach remains the top dog in this series and he will need to prove so again to overcome a second row draw.
Mirragon gets the obvious favours from one then Zeuss Bromac can run well from three-pegs and heat winner Pacifico Dream can also run prominently.
Selections;
1 Be Happy Mach $1.40
2 Mirragon $3.70
3 Zeuss Bromac $7.50
4 Pacifico Dream $5.50
Race Six – 3YO Colts & Geldings
Max Delight will be out to reaffirm his name among the top hopes for the three-year-olds boys division thanks to drawing gate four. Brevity will try and hold him out from two but I doubt he can. Jesse Duke will improve from heat night but he’ll need to and Hurricane Harley and Demon Delight will somehow need to bully their way onto the scene to feature – but we know they can do so.
Selections;
1 Max Delight $1.55
2 Hurricane Harley $4
3 Jesse Duke $11
4 Demon Delight $5
Race Seven – 3YO Colts & Geldings
Out To Play was the winner with another 50m last week so his run was pretty strong. Malcolm’s Rhythm blew up the clock running third to Hurricane Harley and Lochinvar Art and gate two gives him every conceivable.
Lochinvar Art lobs gate 13 so he will no doubt need to circle round to the death and do his utmost.
Perfect Major and Pitch Perfect are the others racing well enough to be considered.
Selections;
1 Malcolm’s Rhythm $2.80
2 Out To Play $1.80
3 Lochinvar Art $4
4 Pitch Perfect $11
Race Eight – 3YO Fillies
Boom Kiwi filly Princess Tiffany disappointed punters on heat night but All Stars horses notoriously improve dramatically as a race series unfolds.
Gate 10 won’t help the multiple Group 1-winner but she should overcome it here.
Two Times Bettor was the rival who upended her and she also lands a second row draw. Miss Streisand is a competitor and should run anywhere from second to fourth whilst Best Western and No Win No Feed are fellow Group 1 victors.
Selections;
1 Princess Tiffany $1.40
2 Best Western $7
3 Two Times Bettor $3.30
4 Miss Streisand $11
Best Bets;
Race 2, No. 8 Looking Fabulous $2.30
Race 3, No. 8 Do Not Surrender each way $7
Race 5, F4 – 9 from 1 from 8,10 from 8,10
Race 7, Trifecta – 2,3 from 2,3 from 13
Early Quaddie;
1: 2,4,7
2: 1,8
3: 1,2,3,8
4: 2
Quaddie;
5: 9
6: 4,7,9,13
7: 2,3,13
8: 10
