Protect ‘Em or Lose ‘Em
Joe Burrow and Justin Herbert have already proven to most that they will both have long and successful NFL careers.
Burrow has flashed some of the skills that made his season at LSU one of the greatest in collegiate history whilst Herbert has been more impressive than could have been expected since taking over from an injured Tyrod Taylor.
The Bengals keep tripping over themselves, meaning they’re still just a one-win team however it’s hardly Burrow’s fault.
On Sunday against Cleveland, Burrow threw for 400+ yards and three scores and added another TD on the ground.
Once again, the Cincinnati offensive line allowed the Browns to hammer Burrow, one play which resulted in Myles Garrett forcing a fumble of the rookie QB. The Bengals offensive skill players are talented and the defence has been okay but protecting Burrow has to be the primary objective.
Herbert secured his first win as a Charger in a stunning 347-yards, 3 touchdown display, and like Burrow, the former Oregon Duck added 66 and a TD as a runner.
Both Herbert and Burrow are big, strong quarterbacks but they face bigger, stronger defenders each and every week and trying to take hits week after week will make for a shortened career – just ask RG3, among others.
AB Incoming…
Earlier in the off-season, Buccaneers coach Bruce Arians said his team was ‘not a fit’ for Antonio Brown. Arians was forthright with his answers when it came to adding Brown to the already loaded offensive unit.
A few months down the track, Brown is a Buccaneer – which led to Arians somewhat sheepishly saying AB would provide depth to the receivers room.
Insiders suggested Tom Brady was chief in acquiring Brown, so perhaps the head coach is hands off and it’s up to TB12 to keep the misguided and often erratic All Pro wideout in line. It may be one of Brady’s greatest feats.
Dysmal Dallas
By now the evidence is telling us one clear thing, the Dallas Cowboys stink.
Dak Prescott is gone for the season and Andy Dalton is tasked with taking over the role as match-winner because week after week this Dallas defence leaks yards and points freely.
Respect for new coach Mike McCarthy seems sketchy as players have been running to reporters with claims of ‘under-prepared coaches’ and poor game plans.
Big D is 2-5, somehow just half a game off the division lead, but forget that because the way this team looks, heading to the top of the draft looks more likely than a playoff push.
Kyler & Cards can challenge
DeAndre Hopkins does not mince his words on Twitter!
He openly backs himself and backs his team mates online, largely because his own play demands nothing but respect.
Two things have breathed life into the Cardinals – Hopkins’ arrival and Kyler Murray’s growth at quarterback.
Arizona are 5-2 and Murray is listed as an $18 chance for NFL MVP. The names that are ahead of him for the award according to Sportsbet… Wilson, Mahomes, Rodgers and Brady – fair list!
Hopkins leads the league in receiving yards and has added toughness to the offence. It will be challenging to upend Seattle as the NFC West champs but hey, they did just beat them, as Nuk reminded us all with a tweet.
Tommy for MVP
Speaking of MVP, a familiar face is returning to the fore.
Tampa Bay’s Tommy B is now $14 to capture a fourth league MVP.
TB has thrown 18 scores against just four picks and has the Buccaneers 5-2 atop the NFC South.
Antonio Brown is in town, Gronk is looking like 2015 Gronk and there is still growth to come between Brady and Pro Bowl pass catcher, Mike Evans.
Russell Wilson deserves MVP favouritism but no one has been hotter across the past few weeks than Thomas Edward Patrick Brady Jr.
