NFL Hot Takes – Week 1

Action Jackson goes big – Lamar Jackson was a dual-threat magician at Louisville but many queried whether his skill set would translate to the NFL. First, he took Super Bowl MVP Joe Flacco’s job and today he smoked Miami for 324 yards and 5 scores. The usually subdued Ravens offence dropped 59!

What’s new is old – Browns fans are accustomed to losing their opening game of a new season but this was supposed to be different. IF anything, it was worse.
Mayfield, OBJ and co. got slammed 43-13 by a team no one expects to be a contender this season. A loss at MetLife versus the Jets next week would be catastrophic.

Dalvin Cookin’ – Injuries curtailed Dalvin Cook’s opening two NFL seasons but the talent has always been evident. Today, he gashed the Falcons for 111 yards and 2 TD. His speed and agility was eye-catching. Hopefully he remains healthy.

MVP Mahomes – Pat Mahomes was a sensation last season en route to league MVP honours. Today, opposed to a vaunted Jags defence, his MVP defence went swimmingly with 378 yards and a triple-treat of scores.
Tyreek Hill went down early and Mahomes copped a sore ankle but Sammy Watkins caught three touchdowns and the Chiefs rolled on.

Big D, Big Hopes – The Cowboys signed their main man this week and now everything is in place for a sustained run at a ring. The defence is rock solid, Dak Prescott has a massive new contract to play for and Zeke has his money.
In week one they rolled past divisional rivals, New York, and have a favourable couple of weeks ahead facing Washington and Miami. Start the hype train.

Scary Pats – Tom Brady lost Rob Gronkowski to retirement in the off-season but regained Josh Gordon and are about to add Antonio Brown to the receivers room. Without Brown, New England were scary good thumping ‘rival’ Pittsburgh 33-3.
IF AB can remain focused on playing football then this offence will be borderline unstoppable – even with a 42-year-old QB in charge!

Game picks;
We went 9/13 on the opening Sunday of the season with the MNF double-header remaining. Perhaps the biggest surprise was the Browns getting hammered at home against Tennessee. TE Delanie Walker said the Browns ‘were who we thought they were’ after the game, suggesting the hype outweighs the reality. It’s hard to argue right now.

I hope you enjoyed your opening Monday morning of NFL.
