ID18, Ballarat Review

Here’s what we learned from night two of ID18 held at Bray Raceway, Ballarat.

1 TEARAWAY TORNADO
This guy is a front line barrier away from Inter Dominion glory. He dealt with his arch rivals in Speeding Spur and Save Our Pennys in sharp fashion at Ballarat and importantly showed he can likely cross any horse from any front row draw.

2 BLUR’S BOUNCEBACK
He was gone. We all wrote 11-year-old Kyvalley Blur off after a dismal opening night effort but he catapulted back into calculations with a stirring over-the-top victory as the leaders became weary. He needs luck but showed just how devastating he still is plus the help of Chris Alford does not go astray.

3 WRAPPERS ROLLS
He was only moderate on night one but Wrappers Delight took advantage of his ace gate and peeled off a 53.8 last 800m to knock off Tiger Tara, Spankem and San Carlo. He’s deadly when leading and showed he can beat them all when rolling along.

4 SPECTACULAR SPANKEM
He did not win tonight but Spankem arguably garnered even more fans on tonight’s third placing than his win on night one. He was off the track late, roaring home in what has been unofficially clocked as the fastest ever last half mile at Ballarat. He’s proving versatile and Natalie Rasmussen is driving unbelievably well.

5 BROMAC CRUZING

Big Cruz Bromac is strolling through this series.
He got up outside Audi Hare easily enough and then sprinted home for a very comfortable win. He’s two from two and looks like he’s becoming a well-rounded warrior for All Stars trainers Mark Purdon & Natalie Rasmussen.

Here’s how I have them ranked heading into night three;
1 Cruz Bromac – two dominant wins from two heats and we know he’s fast off the arm.
2 Tiger Tara – expect a big run in heat three plus the long final helps him most.
3 Spankem – going from strength to strength and showing great versatility.
4 Im Pats Delight – loving his runs thus far but maybe a whisker off the top few.
5 Wrappers Delight – he’d take running down but it could be 12 months too soon.

1 Tornado Valley – absolutely dominant favourite and I’m surprised $2 is available.
2 Speeding Spur – honest and tough but Tornado Valley seems to have his measure.
3 Save Our Pennys – Clearcut top three hope and G Lang can drive big races.
