We’ve reached the finale.
The Caulfield Cup gave us an insight into the European domination, then Winx restored the faith with her fourth consecutive Cox Plate before we headed to Flemington for the Melbourne Cup carnival.
At Headquarters, Darren Weir claimed his first Victoria Derby with staying colt Extra Brut before Damien Lane steered Aristia to victory in the Kennedy Oaks – a win that was enjoyed in our household, not financially, but because relatives have shares in the Group 1-winning filly.
Predictably, the Melbourne Cup was dominated by Northern Hemisphere horses. Three-year-old colt Cross Counter overcame a mishap in his preparation to round up almost the entire Cup field to claim a famous and magnificent victory. It was also South Australian jockey Kerrin McEvoy’s third Cup win.
Today, we tick off yet another fantastic Flemington carnival with Stakes Day. Two awesome Group 1’s highlight a solid day of racing with superstars everywhere on this card.
